Hello Folks and welcome to another Get Altered with eclectic Paperie
challenge. The Get Altered Challenge is held on the first Thursday of
each month and each challenge is an opportunity for you to be inspired by one of
our eTeam’s creations, and to share your work, and be entered into our challenge
prize drawing!
This week it's Erin's turn to host another fun and exciting
challenge.
She has challenged us to alter a clock! Any clock! Old, new, borrowed, inherited! Pick up any
type of clock and alter it to fit your artistic style! We can't wait to see what
you create!!!
Here is my take...
I have to say that I had a fantastic time with this challenge!!!!
Here is how my clock started...
You can see that I took out the clock parts and I just used the cabinet. I saw a really cool shabby chic image when I spotted this clock at a thrift store for $7.00 weeeeee!!!!!
I used Claudine Hellmuth White Paint to cover the dark clock cabinet, but first I taped the glass and sanded the finish a bit so that the paint would adhere.
I loved the fact that the clock had a secret door in the back..soo cool because I knew I wanted to make a shadow box out of it...
Ok, so after I painted the cabnet white I decided to begin my shabby chic distress to it...
I added different papers, in this case Tissue Paper stamped with images, Ranger Text Paper and Prima Novel Collection Paper with Matte Medium just in certain areas. I tore and crumpled the paper for a vintage look and layered them all with the matte medium. After those areas dried I sanded the edges which exposed the brown wood under all the layers. I then inked the entire piece with Ranger Tea Stain Distress Ink, which really added to the worn look.
I then sprayed Tattered Angels Leather Mist in certain ares which gave it a cool "moldy" look. I am not sure you would want mold on your home decor items ...but it's not really mold LOL!!
I also added some pearl barely pink paint from Martha Stewart I had in my stash, just to pick up on the nice soft pink colors in the Prima Papers I used.
I removed the tape around the glass and started to embellish with Prima items...flowers, wooden tags, say it with crystals, chipboard pieces, and tiles all from their Romance Novel Collection.
The door in the back allowed me to add a small scrapbooked photo of my parents with more fun Prima Romance Novel Elements including their yummy lace to the inside.
I have to say that I am so happy with the way this piece turned out...a happy tribute to both my parents who mean so much to me!!!
I hope you have a chance to play along with eP and be sure to check out all the other entries to this fabulous challenge!!
