We have a new challenge over at eclectic Paperie!!

This time design team member Bonnie asked us to use "Games" as our inspiration.

I am a HUGE Scrabble fan!!! My hubby and I play all the time (when we have time LOL)

And I usually win...LOL

So I gathered some of our score sheets and began.

FYI...I attended a Donna Downey Class this past weekend...whoooo hoooo what fun!!!

Anyway as I was working in her class I kept adding extra left over paint stuff to my journal and ended up with a page like this...

I just smeared the extra paint left on my craft sheet during class right in my journal and then added another technique she had us incorporate... blue paint dots made with bubble wrap.  All this stuff was extra left over from the projects we were doing.  Everyone is always saying to try this well I finally did and I LIKE how I had a pre-made page ready to go.

I did add some Lemon Zest Dulusion spray to the exposed open areas.  So this is where I started when I added my scrabble score sheets with Gel Medium.

The thin white swirls you see were added with Wendy Vecchi Clear Embossing Paste over a stencil.

I then added Pink Azalea and Sunflower  Splash of Color Silks Paints with a paint brush and then used a baby wipe to clean and expose the clear embossed areas.

I then added white gesso around the scrabble paper pieces to blend them in a bit better.

I then colored the white gesso with Salty Ocean Stain and also added stamped flowers from the Dylusions stamp set "Background Love" with Library Green Archival Ink.  The circles were stamped using a thread spool with dark blue acrylic paint.

I toned the bright blue around the scrabble paper images a bit with more sunflower yellow silks paint.  I also added a stencil sentiment using gesso and smeared it a bit to look runny.  Blue and black acrylic paint lines were added by just using the side of my palette knife.

Final touches include coloring the gesso words and stamped flowers with my Pitt Pens, adding Tim's Number Rub-On's, and his Alpha Parts plastic numbers and dots of more paint using the end of a fat round pen.

I had a lot of fun with these pages the layers really added up and I got a chance to experiment with some different techniques...thanks to Donna Downey :-)

Toilet Paper Art

EEEkkkk what did you say...yes Toilet Paper Art LOL

Teresa over at eclectic Paperie has asked us in the new design challenge to use something from the kitchen...welllll...I kinda missed the room?

Oh well...

I also decided to use this as a project for my current summer school class called "Decades of Beauty"  The class covers the 1940-1990 discussing how the idea of female beauty changed each decade.  This week we covered the 1960's..tie dyed clothing was in and the project I had them work on focused on change and color.  I will show their completed pieces when they finish them this Monday :-)

Here is my sample...it includes my Toilet Paper tie died piece in the frame.

I started with a matt board and three different types of background paper torn and layered and adhered down with gel medium...Thank you Michelle Hill for the luscious package of vintage paper packs she created for eP...seriously these have some amazing vintage papers in them!!!!

From there I added some color (I'll talk a little about how I got the color in a bit) and an image of a face transferred with gel medium.

I cut out a frame from an old sizzix die and Tim's pediment pieces from chip board.  These got colored with the product you see pictured.

It was super fun layering the colored paints and stains to get that antique look.

I finished the items off with a layer of distress stickles for a bit more texture.

I then used more color ...Picked Raspberry Stain

Then I added stamped leaves form Dylusions Doodle Parts which got highlighted with a white gel pen and I colored the face a bit with my graphite stick, Green Pitt Pens, and Tim's new Distress Pens.

My stamped sentiment is an oldie but goodie and painted Prima wooden flowers finish this piece off.

Intermingled Artwork

Good Afternoon Folks

I wanted to share a project I completed for eclectic Paperie

I am starting to move in the direction of combining my mixed media artwork with my fiber arts background...sooo much fun :-)

I started by transferring victorian clip art to my journal with Gel Medium.

I added Spun Sugar Distress Stain

I added Gold Gelato around the images edge and vintage lace.  The lace was adhered with watered down Gel Medium.

I added a text stamp with Coffee Archival Ink

I then added some more color...Viva Decor Gold Paint (great shimmer!) and Spalsh of Color Glaze Silks: Pink and Brown

Another stamped image from an old Tim Holtz Stamp Set and some of his Chit Chat words.  I inked the edges with Vintage Photo.

More Journal Work

Good Evening Folks

I have a new journal entry to share....

My focus was to practice my face designs as well as using text paper in the face work.

I used my black gelato to color much of the image.  Once I had the black tones all set I decided to add some punches of color with my Pitt Pens.  I love the way these pens puts the ink down allowing you to blend the color for a few seconds before it dries.  I used my Pinks for the face and lips, yellows for the eyes, and greens for the hair and words.

I used my White Gel Pen and Blue Pitt Pen to highlight and added Tim's tissue tape for some areas in her hair.  I used gel medium to cover the entire project making sure that the tape stayed and this also helped blend all the colors.

The words were lettered with a chisel point green sharpie.  I used the pitt pens and my white gel pen to highlight the letters after I drew them.

Splash of Color Pink Silk Paint filled in the areas behind the letters.  I watered it down a bit to get some nice highlighted areas.

I decided to doodle leaves to finish this page off.

Someone Stop Me

Hi Folks

Yes, it is Challenge time over at eclectic Paperie!! Yipeeee :-)

And yes I made another Dress Form...actually I made three more and gave them all as gifts...

Then I had to make one for myself!!!

So the challenge by our DT Member Annette Green was to be monochromatic...

I made this to match my bedroom....it's all in the shades and tints of brown giving it a real vintage shabby chic/steampunk look.

I not only wanted a dress form for my room but I also wanted to make this an "Angel" to commemorate my two Grandmothers that have passed but have always inspired me!!! The both of them left me (the only granddaughter) all their sewing/vintage possessions. *insert BIG smile*

The fabric base of the form was made from one of my Grandmother's vintage table cloths and the lace and trim that make up the dress and skirt came from her as well.

See that fuzzy little critter...my Grandmother had a dozen of them in her hope chest...wish I knew why??  I had to add them :-)  Love the filigree butterfly!!

The wings were made by cutting chip board and plastic wings from Tim Holtz's Big Butterfly Die...it's an oldie but a goodie :-)  For the plastic wings I used the shapeable plastic material Clearly For Art from Wendy Vecchi.

Here is a close up of the jewelry I made from Tim Holtz metal parts and odds and ends.  The Wooden Spools came from Maya Road...I used two sizes long and short.  I painted them and added lace and silk thread/trim from Grandmother's sewing box.  That is a vintage needle case that sits at the bottom...it's leather!!! How cool is that!!! It contains huge needles for making sails?? Why would Nana need those LOL

I also included Nana's metal thimble :-)

  I painted the base of the dress form with Copper Viva Decor Paint.  It gave it a beautiful brown shimmer...that paint is amazing!!! Photos do not do it justice :-(

I threaded the spools and odds and ends I had through Tim Holtz Metal chains and added large gems at the bottom to hold them on.

I know I already made one of these for one of our previous challenges and you will find more info on how to make this form there.

Underwater Dream

I have always had and still do have a "thing" for fairies...LOVE tinkerbell!!!

Most of my artwork lately has been inspired by these fantasy creatures.

Underwater fairies to me are mermaids ...that was the inspiration for this piece

I am in love with the "seaweed hair"

The colors: Tumbled Glass and Peeled Paint were my inspiration as well as my new bottle of Dylusion Spray...London Blue :-)

Her face was painted with layers of arcylic paint, gesso, colored pencils, green pitt pens, and my favorite white gel pen!!!

The strips of different washi tape gave this whole project life...I also used my White Gelato Stick to highlight.  I tore the washi tape and placed it randomly along the hairline mixing the three patterns.

Love the big flowers (starfish?) they added more texture...the burlap looks like more seaweed. They were colored with the same inks as the background but I did add the Dylusion Spray Dirty Martini here and there for shadow.

I used a gesso resist for the background.  The stencil is "mini art" from TCW.

I highlighted those words with Metallic Gold Gelato Stick.

eclectic Paperie Challenge Time

Good Morning Folks

Welcome to another one of eclectic Paperie's awesome challenges.

This week Toni has asked us to use spoons.  How fun!!!

I wanted to really push myself to do something really outside the box.

Here is my take on the challenge...

I made this dress form and the jewelry piece hanging around the form.

Let's start with the spoon and how I made the pendant.

I started with an antique spoon...I left the tarnished patina.

I bent the stem to form a slot for the pendant to hang.

I used some of my metal embellishments to transform the spoon into a pendant.

I used a round frame, added a picture of my great-grandmother and covered it with Glossy accents.  I also used the glossy accents to adhere the metal pieces together.  At the top of the spoon I added a Tim corner piece and a metal flower with a pearl.

Now onto the dressform to hang it....

It started with a candle stick from Michaels.

And a dress form pattern I sewed together using denim.  I will post the youtube video at the end of this post on how to sew this baby together.

Now how I finished the dress form...

I painted the candle stick with Viva Decor 3D stamp Paint Rose...what a nice shine!!  And added trim to the bottom of the dress form.  You can not see it that well but I used gel medium and old book paper to cover the candle stick before painting it with the rose paint.

I glued the dress form to the candle stick, added trim to the neck, and a piece of lace I had hand beaded a few years back.  A tim Holtz knob finished the top off.

I was time to work on the wings...the bottom wings are from a Tim die and the top wings I drew myself..all cut out of chip board.

The bigger wings were painted with more Viva Decor Rose Paint and embossed with Blackberry Ferro using a TCW stencil...cool stuff!!!

The other wings were colored with Dylusion Sprays : Bubblegum Pink and Crushed Grape and stickled for bling :-)

You can see how I layered them up before gluing them onto the dress form.

Here are the wings glued on.

I added some flowers and a chain to the pendant.

I gave this to my daughter (she has a purple and gray bedroom).  I wanted her to have a picture of her Great-Great-Grandmother!!

Flower Power Color Blast!!

Good Afternoon Folks!

I have been playing around with color and am soooo pleased with my results!

This journal entry has plenty of bright colors...sun glasses will be needed LOL

I gessoed my pages before starting and covered the pages with Dylusions sprays: Bubblegum Pink, Lemon Zest and Squeezed Orange....mmmm sounds good enough to eat LOL

Once the spray was dried I began using my Dylusion leaf stencil, stamps, Viva Decor Silks Paint, Pitt Pens and Ferro for more texture.

I stamped my big flowers and swirls with (a stamp set from Stampendous) and Dina Wakely Words with Brown Archival Ink.  I then began to COLOR!! I used my pink colors for the flower then highlighted with Sunflower yellow Viva Decor yellow paint.  The swirls were colored with Green Pitt Pens then Apple Green Viva Decor Silks Paint.

My Version of "she art"....tattooed

Good Morning Folks

I wanted to share my newest Journal entry...I was inspired by Tattoos and flowers (of course!!)

My girl was colored on another page and cut out and placed on this layout.  So I was able to paint the background black.  Before I painted the background I added my paisley swirls (a stencil) and colored them with my copics.

Since I had my elements down then painted the background black it was hard getting the paint into all the corners perfectly...a little tip...from my art school years...use a black sharpie marker in on the tight and difficult to reach spots :-)

After painting the background black it looked a little too new so I sanded some of the black away to give it a older worn look.

I then used my white gel pen to add my fun swirls, dots, dashes, flairs, and squiggles!

I used a stencil for the circles...that's why they are so perfect LOL

My "girls" face is the same as my last "she girl" entry...but that is ok I was more focused on the "tattoo" idea.  I would love to have flower tattoos all over me and wanted to express this in my entry.  I also have also wanted glitter ...like real gems permanently tattooed around my eyes for constant bling...sahhhweeet!!  I made her a blond because I love the vibrant yellow against the black background.

The flowers and leaves are tiny mini stamps I had in my stash...yup!! I know you have a stash with something you can use :-)

I stenciled inside the paisley areas with my white gel pen.

My girl's face was colored in with many layers of medium: pastels, colored pencils, paint, and pitt pens.  I may have a video in the future on this.  Right now so many do exist on youtube so check it out and have some fun :-)
